Four years after: Taking stock of progress

22 November 2013

On the initiative of the National Institute for Lifelong Education (NILE), the Republic of Korea hosted the Regional CONFINTEA VI Follow-up meeting for Asia and the Pacific on 18 – 19 October 2013, which UIL organized in cooperation with UNESCO Regional Bureau of Education in Bangkok.

Bringing together around 50 representatives of 20 Member States and regional stakeholders, the meeting, entitled “Four years after: Tacking stock of progress”, provided a forum to share good practices and to build capacities for developing effective policies and high-quality programmes.

The meeting resulted in an action plan with the aim of developing policy, governance and funding in order to ensure quality provision and broad participation in adult learning and education. The action plan includes specific projects at regional and sub-regional level, and responsible entities for each project.

At the end of the meeting, a field visit to the National Lifelong Education EXPO, which gathered over 50,000 visitors with the aim of promoting a vibrant culture of learning in the country, reinforced the importance of adult education as part of a lifelong learning perspective.
