National Reports on Adult Learning and Education

The UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) monitors global progress and trends in adult learning and education (ALE). Its regular Global Report on Adult Learning and Education (GRALE) draws on reports and data submitted by UNESCO Member States in response to UIL surveys. Please find below an overview of the three surveys and links to all national reports.

Overview of surveys

Survey responses: 139

  • Progress in implementing the 2009 Belém Framework for Action
  • Links between ALE and three key policy fields:
    • health and well-being;
    • employment and the labour market;
    • social, civic and community life.

The survey for the GRALE III (2016) included 75 questions and was designed in consultation with the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), the UNESCO Global Education Monitoring Report, the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and leading experts on ALE.
