UNESCO is pleased to announce the Call for Participants for the Regional Youth Forum for the World Heritage in Africa, which will take place 28 April to 4 May 2016 on Robben Island World Heritage property in South Africa. The deadline for applications is 31 January 2016.

Part of the World Heritage Education Programme, this African Youth Forum seeks to provide a sustainable platform to increase the involvement of youth in the promotion and protection of World Heritage in Africa, and also deliver essential feedback to UNESCO, the World Heritage Committee and the African World Heritage Fund (AWHF) on youth challenges, accomplishments and actions related to the implementation of the World Heritage Convention in the region.

This regional youth forum will address Anglophone youth. Another forum is planned for 2017 targeting francophone youth in Africa.

Twenty-four African applicants, aged 20 - 28 years old, will be selected to participate in the Youth Forum based on the quality of their application, which includes creating a 2 minute video on how youth can contribute to the promotion and protection of World Heritage in the Africa region.

The Youth Forum is being organized by the African World Heritage Fund (AWHF), Robben Island Museum (RIM) and the UNESCO World Heritage Centre with support from the Government of South Africa and the African Union as part of the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of the founding of the African World Heritage Fund.
