Youth-led action research on basic skills education for young women’s empowerment

UIL is collaborating with the Asia South Pacific Association for Basic and Adult Education (ASPBAE) on an action-research project on gender-responsive and inclusive literacy and basic skills education for young women. The project will run from 2016 to 2017. Young people working in ASPBAE member organizations in Indonesia, India and the Philippines will receive training on participatory action research before practising their research skills by planning and conducting mini-action research projects. The overall objective of the research is to analyse factors preventing young women in vulnerable situations from participating in literacy and basic skills programmes and services. Based on this analysis, new services will be introduced to local education programmes. These services will respond to the needs and aspirations of young women in vulnerable situations who left school early or are not in decent work. The findings and recommendations of the research are expected to inform national and regional policies on education and training as well as action-research methodology for young people.
