SDG Resources for Educators - Partnerships For The Goals

Back to Homepage

A partnership is an arrangement where parties agree to cooperate to advance in their mutual interests. International  development assistance stood at 135.2 billion USD in 2014, the highest level ever recorded. 79% of imports from developing countries enter developed countries duty-free. The debt burden on developing countries remains stable at about 3% of export revenue.

The number of internet users in Africa almost doubled in the past 4 years. 30% of the world’s youth are digital natives, active online for at least five years. But more than 4 billion people do not use the internet, and 90% of these live in the developing world.

Why Education is crucial to achieving SDG-17

Quality education allows engagement with organizations and individuals working on various topics that relate to the global goals. With international support, effective and targeted capacity-building activities can be implemented in developing countries allowing them to support national plans to implement all the SDGs including through North-South, South-South and triangular cooperation. By means of physical activity and diverse play among peers with different abilities, the meaning of partnership is introduced. They sing together, go on walks in partnerships, and play in small groups, thus developing positive social and emotional behaviours. (Access Educational materials here)

At this level, creative collaboration can be promoted through work in teams designing mini projects that support better partnerships later in life. Learners communicate their ideas, listen to and work with others to solve problems, thus showing sensitivity to others’ needs and feelings. (Access Educational materials here)

A broad understanding of sustainable development is developed at this stage, including knowledge about current inequalities, poverty and environmental degradation. The key role that partnerships play as a means to achieve it is promoted, thus creating the right environment for creative collaboration and team work in designing mini-projects to support, take action and help in achieving the SDGs.
