Hannover's classical music scene unites for ‘hell:wach’ - a 29-hour classical music marathon

Hannover's classical music scene unites for ‘hell:wach’ - a 29-hour classical music marathon

When:
Fri, 07/03/2020 to Sat, 07/04/2020

Hannover, a UNESCO Creative City of Music in Germany launched ‘hell:wach’, a 29-hour-classical music-marathon led by the city-based orchestra called ‘Orchester im Treppenhaus’ (stair-case orchestra).

The concert brought together over 250 musicians based in and around Hannover from various backgrounds including classical scene, orchestra musicians from the opera house and the radio symphony orchestra, baroque bands, students from the Hannover music university as well as self-employed musicians and bands. The musicians performed in their own groups or in proposed programme groups.

To further support local music talents, particularly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hannover City Council partially funded the project and encouraged audience to make financial contributions for the same. In the same line of solidarity, the orchestra musicians who receive regular income also decided to abstain from receiving any earning from this project.
