International Anamed Symposium produces outcomes for archaeological sites

"Heritage, World Heritage and the Future: Perspectives on Scale, Conservation and Dialogue”

The 14th International Anamed Symposium in cooperation with the UNESCO World Heritage Centre held on 5-6 December at ANAMED, Koc University in Istanbul produced important outcomes for archaeological World Heritage sites.

The challenges affecting the conservation mechanism as well as the sustainability of the archaeological sites are varied. The origins of these challenges may be environmental but also social or political. The symposium aimed to explore current themes that impact the archaeological heritage conservation and development within a site-based focus. Case studies highlighted how concepts of archaeological spaces interact with local perceptions and practices-and in turn how these perspectives complement visions expressed in the framework of the World Heritage Convention.
