This year, ICCROM and IUCN are launching the 4th edition of the Capacity Building Programme for Conservation

 In cooperation with ICOMOS and the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, ICCROM is organizing this intensive workshop, combining theory and practice and that will be held at the University of Tsukuba in Japan. The programme includes conferences, presentations and roundtables on the university campus, as well as a field trip to "Fujisan, sacred place and source of artistic inspiration", a World Heritage property since 2013, where participants will be in contact with local managers and communities. Objectives: identifying the challenges to be met in the management and governance of mixed sites, analysing the interactions between natural and cultural values in the Asia-Pacific region. 

An intensive workshop with many benefits 

This intensive workshop is free of charge and the organizers will cover the accommodation and living expenses in Japan of the selected candidates. However, a limited number of scholarships will be awarded to cover travel costs. Thus, this immersive workshop represents a unique opportunity for mid-career professionals to exchange and build a lasting relationship with experts and specialists in their region. In addition, the University will provide a certificate of participation to participants who have completed the workshop in a satisfactory manner. 

To prepare your application 

Led by international and Japanese professionals and academics specialized in heritage conservation (natural and cultural), this programme is open to a maximum of 15 professionals from the Asia-Pacific region involved in the management of mixed cultural and natural World Heritage sites, mixed sites on their respective countries' tentative lists, or potential mixed sites. Prerequisites for applying: at least five years' experience in the natural and cultural heritage sector and a good command of English. For more details on the admission requirements, please consult this link and the document: "Guidelines Application".
