Key objectives of the measure:

To generate specific actions through the regional integration of Latin American countries to have a common strategy for the dissemination of Latin American cinema, in response to the difficulties of distribution due to the lack of a consolidated regional market (works are concentrated in their national markets and not exhibited in neighboring ones).

To have an online portal of free on-demand films in order to bring Latin American cinematographic productions to the citizens of this region and the Caribbean – from an audience training approach – who rarely get to see this cinema due to the distribution challenges it faces compared to Hollywood cinema.

Scope of the measure:
Regional, National, International
Nature of the measure:
institutional
Main feature of the measure:

Digital public platform for the diffusion, promotion and distribution of Latin American cinema, providing access to the citizens of Latin America and the Caribbean on a free and individual user basis.

Space for users in Latin America and the Caribbean to enjoy a representative panorama of the diversity of film production in the region, increasing their knowledge of the history and current affairs of Latin America, through reviews, critiques, essays, interviews and complementary multimedia materials to the audiovisual works.

Results expected through the implementation of the measure:

Retina Latina will become the site of reference and convergence of Latin American cinema for the citizens of the region and the Caribbean, where they will be trained as an audience through the contact with the diversity in themes, genres, formats and points of view of our films. Likewise, filmmakers of the region will find in Retina Latina an open digital window to make their works visible and help them find their audience.
