CALL FOR PROPOSALS

18/03/2021

MINJEC and UNESCO’s Regional Office for Central Africa are launching a call for proposals from young Cameroonians of both sexes and between the ages of 15 and 35, for a sample of their best photographs or graphic illustrations on the theme:

"Consequences of violence and hate on youth in Cameroon".

We are seeking images that depict or illustrate young people in a variety of situations. For instance:

  • Youth enduring the consequences of violence or hate in relation to lack of access to food or education;
  • Youth fleeing violence and hate;
  • Youth prevented from undertaking their income-generating activities because of hate and violence;
  • Youth prevented from expressing their talent and creativity because of hate and violence;
  • Youth muzzled by intimidation from perpetrators of hate and violence in traditional and digital media;
  • Any other situation in which young people are confronted with the consequences of hate and violence or are working to stop it.

The selected photographs and graphics will help to:

  • Fight against violence and hate in Cameroon;
  • Raise awareness and advocate for the plight of young people struggling with the devastating effects of hate and violence;
  • Demonstrate the efforts of the Government in collaboration with Development Partners, notably UNESCO, and youth, to help ensure the safety of young people.

These proposals would be used to depict the different situations endured by youth because of hate and prolonged violence. These include hate on the Internet, in schools, in peer groups, in communities (rural and urban), in homes and families, and in neighborhoods etc.

Submissions representing youth of different cultural backgrounds, genders, ages and physical abilities are strongly encouraged. All photos and graphic illustrations must meet ethical standards and treat all subjects with respect and dignity.

The 5 best photographs and 5 best graphics will be selected on the basis of artistic merit, creativity and originality. The best submissions will be awarded, and non-exclusive rights on the selected submissions are granted to MINJEC and UNESCO for sensitization purposes.
