UNESCO to present regional strategy to support sustainable cultural tourism in Southern Africa

05/03/2021
11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities

The UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSA) will present the Sustainable Cultural Tourism Strategy for Southern Africa to stakeholders during a webinar slated for 8 March 2021.

The Strategy is designed to guide UNESCO ROSA’s technical support, assistance and advice to member states in the SADC region in exploiting their cultural and heritage resources for the development of cultural tourism and its contribution to sustainable development. It acknowledges and builds upon key tourism policy documents and strategies formulated by international, regional, sub-regional and national organisations.

The virtual meeting is part of the activities organised to celebrate the African Union 2021 theme, “Year of the Arts, Culture and Heritage: Levers for Building the Africa we want”.

Participants will share experiences and ideas to best model the strategy for effective implementation. Stakeholders invited include the academia, SADC, AU, UNTWO regional representatives and UNESCO National Commissions in the SADC region among other critical partners and stakeholders in the culture and tourism sectors.
