From 28 September to 1st October, 8 projects by designers from Saint-Étienne (Design), Montréal (Design), Tel-Aviv (Media Arts), Turin (Design) have been displayed at Bologna Design Week (BDW). Following a call for projects launched by the Creative City of Music for its exhibition “PLAY DESIGN: music and design meet at Bologna Design Week”, the event aimed to highlight the connection between design and music according to different fields of application: design of musical instruments, design of spaces dedicated to musical practice, design of objects related to the enjoyment of music, and sound design.

Amongst the selected projects from Creative Cities, three creations from Saint-Étienne have resonated a dialogue between design and music:

  • “Lazeruku” by Martin Guillaumie: a ukulele made in lasercut from open-source model
  • “Une harmonie en béton” by Charles Gateau, Carine Simoës-Grangeia and Audrey Battini: concrete bells in tribute to Le Corbusier
  • “O Family” by Jean-Sébastien Poncet and Imago: a collection of string and percussion instruments made out the cooperation between a designer and a stringed instrument maker

J.S. Poncet, C. Gateau and A. Battini will come and make these instruments play for the BDW audience.
