Gender disparity in primary school attendance among poor and rural children in low- and middle-income countries is higher than average, mostly at girls’ expense

The intersection of gender with other factors of disadvantage compounds disparity. In a group of low- and middle-income countries with gender disparity in primary school attendance, the parity index was even lower among the poorest and those living in rural areas, mostly at the expense of girls.
