A new generation: 25 years of efforts for gender equality in Francophone West and Central Africa

Virtual event, 12:00-13:30 GMT

To launch the French version of the 2020 Gender Report the GEM Report and The Forum for African Women Educationalists will convene a webinar exploring gender equality and girls’ education in Francophone West and Central Africa, a region where, despite improved access to basic education, poverty, rurality and socio-cultural factors remain persistent barriers to girls’ education.

Following a presentation of the Report by GEM Report Senior Education Specialist Nicole Bella, an interactive dialogue will feature youth voices from across the region, alongside ministers, university vice-chancellors, education policymakers, gender specialists and human rights’ activists. The discussions will draw on the findings and recommendations of the 2020 GEM Gender Report, and provide insights into regional efforts to tackle barriers to girls’ education across the region.
