3000 staff members from multi-graded schools in Kazakhstan were acquainted with preventive and control measures on COVID-19 in schools

22 May 2020

During April and May, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Kazakhstan, the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan (UNESCO Almaty) and the Ministry of education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan jointly organized a series of webinars on COVID-19 prevention and control measures for multi-graded schools in Kazakhstan.

About 3,000 staff members from multi-graded schools from all regions of Kazakhstan and medical personnel working with schools got acquainted with measures to protect children from the spread and infection with coronavirus both during this quarantine period and after the reopening of schools.

Ms. Meirgul Alpysbayeva, National Education Programme Officer at UNESCO Almaty, introduced UNESCO’s education measures in response to COVID-19 and presented a series of information cards, developed by UNESCO and UNAIDS to provide teachers, parents and students with practical tips for living and studying in the time of COVID-19. 64 cards summarize key expert recommendations on nine questions about COVID-19, its influence on our everyday lives – work, studying, relationships with closest ones, physical and mental health – and ways to adapt to this new reality.

"Thank you for organizing this webinar. It provided very useful and needed information! We will definitely follow this advice", said Ms. Gulnara Klyshpekova, Deputy Director of the Uryupinskaya secondary school in Akkol district of Akmola region.
