World Water Development Report 2020: launch in Kazakhstan

29 April 2020

On 30 April 2020, the UNESO Almaty Cluster Office, in cooperation with the Public Fund Center “Cooperation for sustainable development" and the Central Asian Regional Water Network CAR@WAN, is organizing an online launch event of the UN World Water Development Report 2020 “Water and Climate Change”.

The online launch event will bring together a number of stakeholders and partners in the field of water resources management, climate change adaptation and other related fields in Kazakhstan. The event’s programme will include a keynote presentation on the main messages and findings of the UN World Water Development Report 2020 edition, as well as a panel discussion with national experts to provide an overview of the impact of climate change on various water-related sectors in Kazakhstan. It will discuss water availability, glaciers melting, agriculture, natural hazards and will tackle health, among others. The latter is especially relevant in today's Covid-19 caused pandemic. The participants will have an opportunity to raise questions and interact with the experts on the main outcomes of the Report.

“We need more science and more international cooperation to face the water challenges. This report sets out avenues for action and cooperation,” – says UNESCO Director-General, Ms Audrey Azoulay.
