International Year of Indigenous Languages
Languages play a crucial role in the daily lives of people around the globe as a tool for communication, education, social integration and development. They are a source for peoples' identity, cultural history, traditions and memory. Unhappily, languages around the world continue to disappear. The Year of Indigenous Languages (IY2019) aims to raise awareness about them for the benefits of the people who speak these languages and for the important contribution, they make to our world's rich cultural diversity.
