The IBE Director was invited to chair and contribute to a number of sessions at the annual conference of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) in Washington, DC, in March 2015. This conference is widely regarded as one of the two leading conferences globally in the field of comparative and international education and development, and provides an important opportunity for the IBE to strengthen its links with the academic and professional community in this domain.
IBE participated and engaged in different activities, in particular a session on “Reconceptualizing and repositioning the curriculum in the post-2015 education development landscape”, with addresses by Jan van den Akker, Henry Levin and Aaron Benavot. It proved one of the most successful sessions of the conference, with standing room only. The IBE also presented Prospects, and its new editorial direction as a comparative journal of curriculum, learning and assessment, during a session in which editors of leading journals in comparative and international education and development introduced their respective journals’ aims and policies to researchers. Prospects attracted much attention from scholars wishing to publish in the journal, both in this session and in the conference generally. Throughout the conference, IBE engaged with potential authors, manuscript reviewers and special issue guest editors; it also met with the journal’s publishing editor at Springer, making further plans to revamp and re-launch the journal with its renewed focus on curriculum, learning and assessment.
The IBE’s display table exhibiting IBE publications proved very popular, with much interest shown in work published by the IBE – soon snapped up by many of the more than 3,000 participants at this successful meeting of the CIES.
