Mr Simon Bingo was born in 1986 in a village of the Equatoria province of Sudan (now South Sudan), where he grew up in the turmoil of the civil war. Mr Bingo then transferred to northern Kenya where he was taken in at the Kakuma refugee camp, a “new town” in the middle of the savanna of the Turkana land. During this time, art and drama were his source of comfort. After graduating in 2009, Mr Bingo returned to his native country. Knowing the audiovisual world and the requirements of international film and TV crews, he was able to support and escort a great number of them in South Sudan. In 2015, he founded the Juba Film Festival, the first ever film festival in South Sudan which had its 4th annual edition this year in the capital Juba. He is also the founder of the Youth Zone Center organization.
