The UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC) is an international policy-oriented network providing inspiration, know-how and best practice in lifelong learning at urban level. In 2021, the following dates are key to the work of the network.

25 June 2021: Submission of application by the applicant city to the UNESCO National Commissions in the respective country. 16 July 2021: National Commissions submit applications of maximum of two cities per country. 1 September 2021: Announcement of Awardees 27 October 2021: Award ceremony at the Fifth International Conference on Learning Cities in Yeonsu-gu, Republic of Korea. |

UNESCO learning cities’ progress reports |

20 August to 31 October 2021: UNESCO learning cities submit their progress reports 8 November 2021 to 10 January 2022: Review of progress reports 31 January 2022: Announcement of evaluation results |

GNLC members are required to submit a progress report on their learning city project every two years. This is a requirement to renew membership. The online report form will be available here. |

Fifth International Conference on Learning Cities |
|
GNLC member Yeonsu-gu, Republic of Korea, will host the fifth International Conference on Learning Cities (ICLC 5), which will take place from 27 to 30 October 2021. The event will gather education experts and representatives of the 229 members of the UNESCO GNLC around the conference theme ‘Global health education and emergency response’. Learn more |
