Launch event of UNESCO Special Edition "Gender & Creativity: progress on the precipice"
In the framework of the 8th session of the Conference of Parties to the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, which will take place online from June 1 to 4, the launch event of the UNESCO Special Edition "Gender & Creativity: Progress on the Precipice" will be held on June 4 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm (Paris time).
Published on the occasion of the International Women's Day on March 8, 2021 thanks to the support of Sweden, the report "Gender & Creativity" examines the existing - and sometimes growing - inequalities between genders and presents transformative measures and actions for gender equality in the creative and cultural industries, especially in the context of the COVID-19 crisis.
This public event is an opportunity to present and share key messages and recommendations of the report with Member States and other partners in order to promote strong commitments and policy changes that promote gender equality.
The event will be opened and moderated by Ms. Jamila Seftaoui, Director of Gender Equality at UNESCO. The Special Edition will then be introduced by Mr. Toussaint Tiendrebeogo, Secretary of the 2005 Convention.
Two panels will address two major questions.The first will address concrete measures and other transformative policies that can be implemented for gender equality in the cultural sector, particularly in response to the new challenges posed by the COVID-19 crisis. The second will address ways to promote well-being and safety for all in the workplaces of cultural and creative industries, particularly in the digital environment.
These discussions will bring together leading academics and cultural professionals including:
- Ms. Bridget Conor, (New Zeeland), author of the Special Edition “Gender & Creativity: “Gender & Creativity: Progress on the Precipice”, researcher and professor at King’s College (London, United Kingdom).
- Ms. Luis Alberto Quevedos, Director of FLACSO (Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences)
- Ms. Deeya Khan, (Norway), musician, documentaries director, UNESCO goodwill ambassador for artistic freedom
- Ms. Esi Atiase, (Ghana/Senegal), digital artist, member of the Resilientes movement
- Ms. Nia Dinata, (Indonesia), award-winning director and producer
