Be part of the solution
When it comes to tackling the world’s waste, it can be hard to know where to start. But by making small changes to your life, you can reduce your negative impact, increase your understanding and start to see how you can be part of transforming the world.
Trash Hacks will be different for each person, depending on their lifestyle, location and situation. Start by asking yourself: how can I Trash Hack my life? Look for ways you can start to act in your life by asking questions like: how much trash do I use? Where does my waste go? Where does the trash in my neighbourhood come from?
Act
Decide a small step you plan to take – by yourself or with friends – to reduce waste. You could make a Trash Hack pledge using UNESCO’s Instagram filter, Trash Hack your home, organise a clean-up in your area or Trash Hack your digital waste.
Reflect and learn
What does your Trash Hack tell you about your consumption or waste in your region? Where did the trash come from? Where does it go? Learn more about waste and reflect while go, talking to your friends and sharing your experience on social media.
Celebrate and encourage others
Our impact can be multiplied if we reach out to friends and family, share our Trash Hacks, celebrate what we’ve done and learnt, and invite them to be part of the solution.

Who is UNESCO?
At the heart of the Trash Hack campaign is Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
ESD is the transformation of learning so it gives people the tools to tackle the problems of the present and future, to fight the climate crisis and change the world. ESD rethinks what we learn, where we learn and how we learn. It's about life long learning which lets people develops the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that enable them to make informed decisions and actions on global problems .
