Kuwait mobilizes for "Li Beirut"

15/06/2021
Beirut, Lebanon

Kuwait has joined the list of donor countries for UNESCO's flagship initiative Li Beirut, launched in the aftermath of the deadly explosions at the Port of Beirut, by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, to support the Lebanese capital.

The Kuwaiti government has announced that it has allocated $ 55,000 to support the creative and artistic industry, severely damaged by the port's blasts.

These funds will be added to other funds allocated for the improvement of security and the development of four cultural spaces in the heart of the capital, and which will host between July 2 and 4, 2021 the artistic performances of five local cultural associations, supported by UNESCO within the framework of Li Beirut. The festival, called TERDAD or Resonance, will mark the resumption of cultural life in the heart of the battered city, considered a true cultural beacon of the Mediterranean.

Thanking Kuwait for its contribution to the event, the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Beirut, Costanza Farina, reaffirmed UNESCO's commitment to work with cultural associations and art professionals, and to unite efforts to give new impetus to the cultural life of Beirut, which was recognized worldwide for its dynamism and vitality.
