UNESCO IITE at the International Forum on Media Education 2017

The International Forum “Media Education in Pedagogical Practice: Experience and New Management Approaches” was held in Moscow on March 16-17, 2017. The Forum was organized by the Moscow State University of Education in cooperation with the Eurasian Association of Pedagogical Universities, the Russian Association for the Development of Pedagogical Universities and Institutes, and the Russian Association of Media Educators under support of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.

The event gathered more than 200 participants, including heads and representatives of pedagogical universities from Russia and CIS countries as well as experts on media education and media and information literacy. One of the main topics addressed at the Forum was the management and training of specialists to provide schools and universities with quality media and information literacy programmes and courses.

Mr. Tao Zhan, Director of the UNESCO IITE, welcomed the organizers and participants of the Forum. In his message, Mr. Tao said, “Today Media and Information Literacy becomes a fundamental and at the same time challenging issue in our shared mission of achieving peace and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by 2030, including the SDG 4 on education, i.e. to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”.

Ms. Tatiana Murovana, UNESCO IITE programme specialist, delivered a presentation on the UNESCO and IITE activities in the field of media and information literacy. The contribution that covered UNESCO IITE current and future projects was made at the round table “Contents, technologies and management methods of the media education” held within the framework of the Forum.

Reports, presentations and discussions within the event served as a basis for a final Resolution of the Forum. The document includes specific proposals for future promotion and development of  the Russian media education and reflects an appeal of the Forum participants to the professional educational community, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, and the Russian Federal Educational Association on General Education.
