IICBA Participated at the Launching Meeting of CESA STEM Cluster

29 –30 September 2016, Nairobi/Kenya

UNESCO-IICBA participated, represented by Dr. Temechegn Engida, at the African Union Commission planning workshop organized in partnership with the Center for Mathematics and Science Education in Africa (CEMASTEA), bringing together key partner agencies working in STEM education in Africa, and senior government officials, in order to strategize and develop an implementation strategy for the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA), in the area of strengthening the teaching and learning of STEM across all levels of education in Africa.

IICBA, as a member of the CESA STEM cluster, shared its experiences in the area of STEM teacher development, ICT for STEAM teachers and teaching-learning materials development using the principles of instructional design in the past years in many parts of Africa. IICBA also indicated its readiness to contribute to the STEM Cluster activities through technical backstopping, promotion of the ideas and developing policy briefs to sensitize high level officials and senior experts to advocate for STEM education in Africa.

The workshop was concluded by developing TORs highlighting the mandate, intended activities, M&E and partnership mechanisms of the CESA STEM cluster.
