IICBA support to E-learning and E-assessment trainings in Rwanda

1)  Training to Lecturers of the University of Rwanda on E-learning Content Development Using the Instructional Design Approach

Upon the invitation of the UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa, Nairobi/Kenya, Dr. Temechegn Engida and Mr. Henok Workye facilitated a five-day workshop on e-learning content development using the instructional design approach. The participants were drawn from lecturers of various colleges of the University of Rwanda (UR). The workshop took place in the College of Education of UR from the 30th of January to the 3rd of February, 2017.

The workshop was part of the “ICT Transforming Education in Africa”, a two-year project (2016-2018) developed within the framework of the UNESCO-Korean Funds-in-Trust (KFIT) contributed by the Republic of Korea. The project intends to support the integration of ICT-based innovative approaches for education in Mozambique, Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

The KFIT Rwanda Project has three main expected results:

·   To enhance the capacity of pre- and in-service primary and secondary teachers to provide quality education is enhanced, through improving their skills to integrate ICT in education, and using electronic assessments;

·   To enhance the capacity of the University of Rwanda in expanding higher education is strengthened through offering courses via open distance e-learning (ODeL);

·   Policy development and knowledge sharing for knowledge societies are facilitated.

The Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Korea to UNESCO in Paris attended the opening ceremony and made an enlightening speech by focusing on where Korea was economically about three decades ago and where it stands now in the global economic standard. He stressed that the key to its success was education and appealed to the lecturers of the UR to focus on providing quality education using ICTs. 


2) IICBA Offered Training to the Staff of Rwanda Education Board on E-Assessment

Upon the invitation of the UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa, based in Nairobi/Kenya, Dr. Temechegn Engida and Mr. Henok Workye facilitated a three-day workshop on e-assessment. The participants were drawn from staff of various Departments of the Rwanda Education Board (REB) such as Curriculum, Examination, ICT, Teacher Development and Management. The workshop took place in Lemigo Hotel from the 6th to 8th of February, 2017.

The workshop was part of the “ICT Transforming Education in Africa”, a two-year project (2016-2018) developed within the framework of the UNESCO-Korean Funds-in-Trust (KFIT) contributed by the Republic of Korea.
