1This Protocol entered into force on 24 October 1968. It subsequently entered into force for each State three months after the date of deposit of that State’s instrument, except in cases of notifications of succession, where the entry into force occurred on the date on which the State assumed responsibility for conducting its international relations.

2The Democratic Republic of Viet Nam and the Republic of South Viet Nam (the latter having replaced the Republic of Viet Nam) united on 2 July 1976 to form a new State, the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam (Viet Nam). At the time of writing, the Government of Viet Nam had not yet made known its position regarding any succession.
