The German development policy considers culture as one of the main drivers for sustainable development – as a source of identity, enabler of social cohesion and integration, as well as of economic development. In 2017, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) established a Funds in Trust (FIT) to support the implementation of the 2005 Convention

Germany is Party to the Convention since 2007.
