How digital creativity reinvents and reinterprets our environment? Watch the "Leral Thiossane" project video to find out.

From 13 to 15 December 2016, Senegalese artists Djiby Ba, Seydou Keita, Lamine Dieme, Esi Atiase and Ibaaku, curator Marion Louisgrand Sylla, and Spanish multimedia artist Fausto Morales Gil, founder of Slidemedia, projected a digital video, light and sound installation in main hall of UNESCO’s headquarters. The immersive installation remixed and reinterpreted African iconographic representations in digital language and code.

Created within the framework of an artistic residency in Dakar, this installation was realized under the aegis of the Ker Thiossane, a centre for research, training and multimedia creation, located in Dakar, Senegal. The installation, which was supported by the International Fund for Cultural Diversity, partnered young artists from different disciplines and nationalities in the global North and global South.

This ephemeral installation, entitled "Leral Thiossane", was created on the occasion of the 10th Intergovernmental Committee of the 2005 Convention, which discussed the adoption of draft operational guidelines for implementing the Convention in a digital environment.

With the support of the International Organization of la Francophonie, the installation was inaugurated in the presence of the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, the Minister of Canadian Heritage, Mélanie Joly, and the Director of French Language, Culture and Diversity for the International Organization of la Francophonie, Youma Fall.
