Introduction to Community, Rights and Knowledge (CRK) Competences

Why is it important for heritage practitioners to be competent in the area of Community, Rights and Knowledge? 
 
Community, Rights and Knowledge (CRK) is a Core Competence area defined under the UNESCO Competence Framework for Cultural Heritage Management. It aims to ensure the realization of the rights of local communities and integrating traditional knowledge into conservation processes and actions.
 
The newly developed UNESCO Competence Framework for Cultural Heritage Management identifies the competence (ie. skills and knowledge) required to sustainably manage a cultural heritage site. It applies to various heritage practitioners ranging from skilled workers to decision makers and local stewards.
