When:
Wed, 01/01/2020

The Creative City of Bucheon has announced the first edition of the “Bucheon Diaspora Literary Award”, which will be launched in 2021. The “diaspora literature”, understood as a literary style, is becoming increasingly important in an era of global migrations, in order to strengthen communication and reflect cultural diversity through literature.

In this light, Bucheon created the first international prize in diaspora literature, aiming at breaking the ground to this style in the contemporary literary ecosystem, by highlighting the role of diaspora for collective memory, intercultural dialogue and creativity.

The city is planning is to hold the first Bucheon Diaspora Literary Award ceremony in 2021, the year that marks the fifth anniversary of Bucheon’s designation as a UNESCO Creative City. All the UNESCO Creative Cities will be involved in the initiative, both to provide suggestions to design the award and to actively participate in the nomination process, along with international authors, publishers, professors, experts, literary organizations and educational institutions.
