A new tool launched this week offers a fun way to test your level of literacy about the scourge of Covid-19 disinformation – and enable you to learn more about how society is responding to the problem.
The test lets you self-assess what you know – and don’t know – about the changes taking place in our information ecology. Developed by the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in partnership with UNESCO, and designed to be mobile-friendly on the EdApp platform, this novel method takes you through micro-learning lessons that can be completed in 5-10 minutes each. Your reward is 20 stars – and a head full of new knowledge.
The resource is based on UNESCO’s two recent policy briefs which decipher nine types of COVID-19 disinformation and dissects 10 different types of responses. It also condenses insights from the 266-page study Balancing Act: Countering Digital Disinformation while respecting Freedom of Expression, published by UNESCO with the support of the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development.
The launch coincides with UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week, whose theme is “Resisting disinfodemic: Media and Information Literacy for everyone & by everyone”.
Users will find that they can be tested in different segments, responding to short quizzes and games with swipes, scrolling or clicks to go forward or to review past screens. There is an option to use cellular data or only wifi connection, and lessons can also be downloaded for off-line use.
The course is a collaboration of UNESCO and UNITAR available now in the Educate All global learning library.
