How to use the platform

Users of this website can contribute to the celebration of persons with disabilities and their achievements by sharing their own remarkable stories and experiences, engaging in online discussions, joining a global community by connecting with persons with disabilities and interested partners from all over the world, and promoting the voices of others in larger networks.

How to register?

Users can create a new account here. 

You will receive an email with instructions to set your password and complete your registration

How to share your story?

Once registered, users have access to an interactive platform where they can share their stories by completing a form and upload content such as written words, audio-files, videos, photographs, etc., as well as references. The online survey includes:

  • Basic data. Users can fill in a questionnaire that includes information on basic demographics, including gender, age, etc.;
  • Nature of accomplishments. Users can provide a brief description of the nature of their accomplishments and how they achieved them;
  • Facilitators and barriers to participation. Using a provided list, users can rank the three most important facilitators or enabling factors that supported their empowerment and the three major barriers that they had to face;
  • Supporting material. In addition to required references, users can upload short videos (2-3 minutes), audio files, photographs, and news articles depicting their stories, the barriers they faced, and how they achieved empowerment.

Additionally, users can review already uploaded stories, edit their personal information, join discussions within the online community, and request a new role such as ‘Expert Status’ or ‘Moderator Status’ in the forum, among other functions

How to analyze, export, print in different formats (report, figures and other) and use data?

UNESCO aims to prepare an analytical report on the key enabling factors for persons with disabilities in order to encourage governments, UN agencies, civil society organizations, academic institutions and the private sector, to initiate new collaborations, take new measures and embrace the needs and perspectives of persons with disabilities in their policies and initiatives. Reports, figures and other data collected on this website through the submitted stories and content should be available to export to all users of the website likely in January 2020. More precise information will be communicated in due course.
