Specialized Courses Programme (SCP)

IIEP Specialized Courses Programme (SCP) responds to the needs of professionals interested in intensive, short-term, specialized training in specific areas of educational planning and management. Find out about the next courses.

Due to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, our 2021 Specialized Courses Programme will exceptionally be delivered remotely. Each specialization course consists of a 8-week online training involving 12-15 work hours per week. It is preceded by a 12-day preliminary phase to get acquainted with the e-learning platform and to meet the other participants and IIEP instructors.

Delivered by IIEP experts in English and/or in French, these courses are designed to strengthen the participant’s knowledge and professional skills in the use of advanced tools and methods, addressing technical and managerial issues, strategy, monitoring and evaluation. SCP is also a key component of IIEP’s Advanced Training Programme, providing educational planners and managers with wider access to specialized courses.

Applying to the 2021 Specialized Courses Programme (SCP)

Admission to courses is open to all candidates who meet the requirements stated below. The number of places made available is limited. Applications must be submitted exclusively online. Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Technology and online training environment

In 2021, all our specialization courses are held online, on a Learning Management System or “virtual campus”. Technology is user-friendly and adapted to the participants’ needs, allowing practice-oriented training and a collaborative learning approach. Teaching-learning activities span a variety of interactive modules, resources and tools, including discussion forums, video and audio instructional contents, web conferencing, wikis, blogs, quizzes, and more.

Check minimum system requirements

The working languages are English and/or French, depending on the specialization course. Simultaneous interpretation is provided during teaching sessions for bilingual courses. The working methods call for active involvement of and contribution from each participant. Courses combine different working modalities: individual work, group work and interaction with the IIEP instructors and participants from other countries to enable constructive interactions and knowledge sharing.

All courses request participants to spend 12-15 hours per week on course related work, except for the preliminary phase which requires a lesser time involvement.

IIEP Library

The Institute offers participants a unique study environment, even online. They will also have access to the online resource and thematic portals in distance mode. The library houses a unique collection of more than 30,000 references devoted to educational policy, planning, management and related areas (statistics, sociology, public administration, etc.) which can be accessed by participants online. Over half of the collection is available online (publications, specialized journals, national documents, etc.).

Course fees

The individual fee for each course offered in the SCP is 1,600 USD. For country groups of minimum 4, each individual fee is 1,400 USD for each SCP course.

Course fees must be covered by admitted candidates. Admitted candidates will receive an official admission letter together with a personalized invoice and are expected to settle their course fees within 2 weeks of receiving the invoice.

Financial assistance and grants

Candidates are encouraged to apply to funding institutions for fellowships or grants (their employer, including ministries, international and non-governmental organizations).

IIEP-UNESCO cannot offer financial assistance.

Cancellation policy

Please note that participants whose cancellation request is received less than 14 days prior to the start date of their first training course, will be charged a cancellation fee of 10% of the course.

IIEP reserves the right to cancel a course. In this case, IIEP will offer the candidate a seat in an alternative course. If the alternative course is not acceptable to the candidate, reimbursement can be considered.

Credit and certification

The performance of the participant in each course is assessed through one or a combination of the four modes: test, written assignment, group work and participation. Performance is marked on a scale ranging from 0 to 20, and the pass mark is 12/20.

A participant taking a specialization course and fulfilling stipulated assessment requirements is granted the full number of credits defined for the course. The ECTS credits (European Credits Transfer System) obtained through the specialization courses can be transferred to IIEP’s Advanced Training Programme (ATP). To qualify for the ATP, a candidate has to take three specialization courses. Admission to the full ATP is conditional to the submission of a separate application and the acceptance of the candidature by IIEP’s ATP Selection Committee.

On completion of the course or courses taken within the framework of the SCP, the trainee receives a certificate of participation delivered by the IIEP indicating the title of each course attended and the date. The scores obtained in the assessments are communicated separately.
