Literacy Database revamped

A well-established resource of the UNESCO Institute of Lifelong Learning (UIL), the Effective Literacy and Numeracy Practices Database (LitBase) has a new look.

Since 2009, LitBase has documented over 200 innovative and inspiring practices in youth and adult literacy and numeracy from around 100 countries across the world. It is a unique resource for researchers, literacy providers and practitioners on different approaches to literacy programmes, including integrative approaches to literacy and other areas, including community and family learning, skills development, ICTs, women’s empowerment, work-based learning, and distance education. It is a resource to help improve design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, as well as the impact of programmes in the field of adult literacy.

LitBase is now more user-friendly, new functions include filtering tables for easy identification of cases by country, target groups, educational systems, levels and facilities, as well as subjects. It also provides geographical mapping of cases and updated content. The cases are available in English, French and Spanish.

In 2018, four new cases have been added to LitBase and one has been updated. These are Cell-Ed (USA), Letters for Life (Portugal), the Advancing Quality Alternative Learning Project (Pakistan), Hametin Família (Timor-Leste) and We Love Reading (Jordan).
