Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme

Strategy and Roadmap

A new Roadmap for the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme and its World Network of Biosphere Reserves

The Roadmap of the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme is comprised of three documents:

The MAB Strategy 2015-2025 is an update of the Man and Biosphere (MAB) Programme in the new context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Lima Declaration (2016) on the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme and its World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR) was subscribed by UNESCO Member States, biosphere reserves, and co-operating public and private sector institutions, as well as civil society organizations. It expresses their political commitment with the Programme and lays out the principles of the Lima Action Plan.

The Lima Action Plan for UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme and its World Network of Biosphere Reserves (2016-2025) contains a comprehensive set of actions aimed at ensuring the effective implementation of the MAB Strategy 2015-2025.

MAB Global Communication Strategy and Action Plan

In the 30th Session of the International Co-ordinating Council of the MAB Programme, held in July 2018 in Palembang, Indonesia, adopted this far-reaching Global Communication Strategy and Action Plan.

Its development was conducted through a series of consultations with the WNBR. The premise is that the strategy should be developed by the network, for the network - using the communications tools that have already been created within the Brand & Story Toolkit adopted by the World Network in 2015.
