Call for applications for the 2022 Kogei World Competition in Kanazawa

Call for applications for the 2022 Kogei World Competition in Kanazawa

When:
Fri, 10/22/2021 to Wed, 04/13/2022

In 2022, the fifth edition of the Triennale of Kogei will be held in Kanazawa (Japan), a Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art since 2009. In Japanese, Kogei means "traditional arts and crafts" and englobes all the traditional Japanese crafts. One of the highlights of this year’s edition is the ‘2022 Kogei World Competition in Kanazawa’, showcasing the latest innovations in the field of kogei. The city has launched a call for applications, welcoming applications from interested groups and  of all nationalities and ages until 13 April 2022.

Under the theme “Craft Visions”, the competition will highlight works that discerningly capture the essence of contemporary expression from the perspective of crafts. By offering a Next Generation Award for creators under age 35, the Kogei World Competition is intended to foster the active participation of young artists, thereby promoting youth engagement in cultural activities, in line with UCCN’s mission and objectives. Artists are invited to create their works using materials of their choosing, such as ceramics, metal, textiles, lacquer, dolls, wood, bamboo, glass, leather, enamel, and paper, etc.

Following a first screening phase, the selected works, including award-winning entries, will be exhibited during the 5th Triennale of Kogei in the People’s Gallery of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art of Kanazawa.
