About the project:

Muda Africa Organization, a non-profit organization committed to sustaining cultural, social and economic progress for youth in United Republic of Tanzania and East Africa, proposes to: 1) create a network to promote contemporary dance in East Africa; and 2) empower East African women dance artists.

How does this project contribute to the implementation of the 2005 Convention?

  • Creates networks and initiatives that support and facilitate the mobility of artists and cultural professionals in the Global South - The project will establish a network to facilitate exchanges on the distribution and access to contemporary dance in the East African Community (EAC). Website and data collection will also help to identify the needs of the sector and train dancers on arts marketing.
  • Supports the representation of women as creators and producers of cultural expressions by strengthening artistic capacities - The project will support 45 women and build their capacities in the field of contemporary dance and advocate for more structured policies to promote gender equality in the creative sector.

  • Create a website with database of minimum 120 East African dancers from the Afrika Mashariki Dance (AMDA) network in United Republic of Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda.
  • Conduct survey on dance markets within the region.
  • Provide a manual and a training on art marketing to 180 dancers.
  • Organize three trainings on contemporary dance targeting 45 women artists, and a 2-day conference with the members of AMDA network to develop policies promoting East African women artists.
