Francophonia is first and foremost a group of women and men who share a common language, French. The latest report from the Observatoire de la langue française, published in 2018, estimates their number at 300 million speakers, spread over the five continents.
It is also an institutional mechanism dedicated to promoting French and implementing political, educational, economic and political, educational, economic and cultural cooperation within the 88 states and governments of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF).
of the future all together!
From May 13 to July 27, 2020, we conducted a major consultation with Francophone youth to understand their realities and gauge their aspirations.
Here is a glimpse of what came out of these discussions.
Convinced of the decisive role of culture in sustainable development, La Francophonie has several objectives: to promote the emergence of a real market for cultural products by professionalizing the industry, particularly in French-speaking African countries, to support the implementation of policies favourable to the diversity of expressions and, finally, to promote the dialogue of cultures.
In 2060, more than 700 million people will live in French-speaking countries. Three quarters of them will be under the age of thirty and will live in Africa. This is both a great hope and a huge challenge for the whole francophone movement: a hope because the future of the French language has never been under better auspices; a challenge, because we must offer them perspectives.
