Conference on 2005 Convention and Sustainable Development in Lithuania

The Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania and the Embassy of Canada in Lithuania, is organizing on Friday 18 March, 2016 in Vilnius, Lithuania, a conference on the 2005 Convention and Sustainable Development. The integration of culture into national sustainable development plans and policies, as underlined in the 2005 Global Report 'Re-shaping Cultural Policies', is one of the main overarching goals of the 2005 Convention.

Charles Vallerand (Canada), Executive Director of the Canadian Coalition for Cultural Diversity and General Secretary of the International Federation of Coalitions for Cultural Diversity, and member of the 2005 Convention Expert Facility, will give a lecture on the main principles and provisions of the Convention, share best practices and experiences on the practical aspects of its implementation, in the perspective of sustainable development. Other high level speakers will include Mr. Arnas Neverauskas, Vice minister of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, and Mr. Rolandas Kvietkauskas, Director of the Lithuanian Film Centre.

The translation in Lithuanian of the Operational Guidelines of the 2005 Convention, revised in June 2015, will be presented during this conference. Lithuania has ratified the Convention in 2007.
