Second Creative Cities Summit takes place in Beijing

The second UNESCO Creative Cities Summit, on the theme of “UNESCO Creative Cities Network: a lever for sustainable urban development”, will be held in Beijing, People’s Republic of China, between 6-8 June.

UNESCO in cooperation with the People’s Government of the Beijing Municipality and with support from the National Commission of China for UNESCO will organise this event - bringing together key players in the fields of urban planning and creativity.

The Creative Cities Beijing Summit aims to position the Network as a key programme to achieve sustainable development in cities under the framework of the Culture and Sustainable Urban Development Initiative, launched by UNESCO in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Mayors and policy-makers of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, academics and experts from all over the world will gather at this event, which will serve as a dialogue and discussion platform for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. By focusing on research and policy-making, they will explore innovative and effective ways of fully integrating culture and creativity into local development strategies and plans.

This summit will also support UNESCO’s contribution to the Third United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat-III), which will take place in Quito, Ecuador, in October 2016.
