Industrial heritage remains underrepresented on the World Heritage List, especially the one predating the 19th century. Industrial heritage sites and landscapes dating back to the 17th century in the Caribbean can be considered as important representatives of such ancient industrial heritage.

Therefore, the objective of this project is to prepare a nomination file for the serial cultural site “The industrial heritage of Barbados: the Story of Sugar”.

This request was funded thanks to a contribution by the Government of Japan.
