Indigenous Fellowship Programme

The Indigenous Fellowship Programme at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva started in 1997 and is part of the programme of activities of the International Decade of the World’s Indigenous People (1995 – 2004). 

The Programme consists of a combination of lectures, briefings, seminars, monitoring of relevant UN meetings, individual and group assignments, practical work within the Offices of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and working experience in UN agencies. From its inception, UNESCO has participated in the Indigenous Fellowship Programme through welcoming the indigenous fellows to a two weeks stays at the Headquarter in Paris. The UNESCO contribution to the Indigenous Fellowship Programme consists of a combination of lectures, briefings, individual and group assignments and practical work within UNESCO.
