The Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Heritage Enters into Force

The Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Heritage will enter into force on 20 April 2006.

On 20 January 2006, Romania deposited with the Director-General of UNESCO its instrument of acceptance to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage thus bringing to 30 the number of States that have ratified the Convention. Therefore, in accordance with the terms of its Article 34, the Convention will enter into force on 20 April 2006, that is to say three months after the date of the deposit of the thirtieth instrument of ratification, acceptance, approval or accession, namely, with respect to the States that have deposited their respective instruments on or before that date.
