Extrabudgetary Projects on Freedom of Expression - Japanese Official Development Assistance

Japanese Official Development Assistance

In recognition of the important role of education in sustainable development, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan has contributed to supporting UNESCO since 2005 via the Japanese Funds-in-Trust (JFIT). JFIT serves to strengthen UNESCO activities in the field of education for sustainable development.

UNESCO is leading innovative projects around the world thanks to voluntary contributions it has received from donors in support of freedom of expression.

Under the project: Enhancing Access to Information and Freedom of Expression for Syrian Refugees in Jordan through Radio Programs, the UNESCO Amman office recently produced a short film on the Sa’a Suriya (Syrian hour) Radio programme.

Voluntary contributions have strengthened UNESCO’s work in freedom of expression in dozens of countries around the world.
