Extrabudgetary Projects on Freedom of Expression - Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) implements Korea’s grant aid and technical cooperation programs. It focuses on promoting sustainable development, strengthening partnerships with developing partners, and enhancing the local ownership of beneficiaries, as well as global concerns such as the environment, poverty reduction, and gender mainstreaming.

UNESCO is leading innovative projects around the world thanks to voluntary contributions it has received from donors in support of freedom of expression.

In the context of electoral violence in Africa, the media have paid a great price, with journalists intimidated, harassed and sometimes killed. There have been cases of rival political groups attacking and vandalizing media houses owing to disputes over coverage.

Voluntary contributions have strengthened UNESCO’s work in freedom of expression in dozens of countries around the world.
