On the third edition of the International Day of Education, the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Foundation for Distinguished Academic Performance renews its collaboration with UNESCO to support and promote quality education globally through a contribution of USD 1 million to the UNESCO-Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Fund.
The support from the Hamdan Foundation will contribute to recover and revitalize education for the COVID-19 Generation, the theme of the International Day of Education in 2021. It builds on well-established initiatives supported by the Foundation, including the UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development that has bred a decade of innovative practices in teaching across the world as well as the recently launched Knowledge Platform of the International Taskforce on Teachers for Education 2030, which promotes the exchange of good practices.
“ Many of the answers to the challenges education faces today are in the hands of teachers: recovering learning loss, adapting to new pedagogies, tools and learning modalities, supporting learners and whole education communities by means of socioemotional, hybrid and blended learning,” said Stefania Giannini, Assistant Director-General for Education. “Scaling up these practices is only possible if the means, platforms and incentives for collaboration among teachers are put in place. This is what the Hamdan Foundation support to UNESCO’s programme will help achieve.”
On his part, Dr. Jamal Al Mehairi, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Secretary-General of the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Distinguished Academic Performance, commented: “We are firmly committed through our partnership with the UNESCO to continue enabling the Hamdan Fund to support the efforts that the international organization is exerting to reinforce the quality of education and enhance it across communities especially in developing countries. The Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Foundation for Distinguished Academic Performance was established in 1988 by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance of the U.A.E. It aims to promote educational excellence by sponsoring innovation to improve educational performance at all levels of education.
