A new edition of the International Congress of the REDBIOÉTICA UNESCO invites you to resort to this discipline to provide solutions to social, economic, political and environmental situations, in contexts of inequality and poverty in the region

On September 23, 24 and 25, 2021, the VIII International Congress of REDBIOÉTICA UNESCO will be held, organized by the UNESCO Regional Office for Sciences in Latin America and the Caribbean with the support of the Universidad El Bosque. It is a unique meeting in the region, in which more than 50 experts from around the world will attend to focus on the link between bioethics and human rights.

Under the title of "The reinvention of the social between inequalities and technological convergence", an attempt will be made to cover the work of this discipline in those problems that affect the lives of people in Latin America and the Caribbean, through a virtual proposal first level.

"Human rights and the principles of the Declaration of Bioethics and Human Rights of UNESCO should be the basis for reflecting, re-evaluating social realities and establishing ethical criteria that can guide the solution of conflicts in our highly unequal societies," said Lidia Brito, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Sciences in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Thus, during the three days of the congress, ethical aspects of health research, political decisions in science and technology, the distortion of public opinion and fake news, biopolitics and the confrontation with the freedoms raised by health measures will be analyzed. It is intended to deepen the exercise of fundamental rights in pandemic contexts, analyzing the lessons learned and identifying the necessary actions in post-pandemic moments.

“In times of global crisis, not only in terms of health, but also economic, social, and why not ethical, bioethics is presented as a crucial and fundamental discipline to promote debate and collaborate in proposing solutions adjusted to values and currently indispensable ”, distinguished the research professor Constanza Ovalle, Executive Secretary of the REDBIOÉTICA UNESCO for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Hand in hand with important international speakers, the congress will address border issues and issues of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, such as: Philosophy and bioethics from a gender perspective; the beginning of life and the women's movement in LAC; Dialogues with ethnic groups and thoughts about life, water and nature; conceptions about dying in times of pandemic; experiences in the COVID-19 pandemic of the National Bioethics Committees and Commissions; Trans and diverse genders identities; Ethical discussions about Artificial Intelligence; Bioethics and religiosity.

In addition, the conceptual and methodological frameworks that pose the challenges to the epistemological approaches of bioethics will be presented.
