Act for biodiversity: visit the UNESCO and LVMH pavilion at the IUCN congress

03/09/2021
15 - Life on Land

There is only one planet: not one for nature and another one for human beings. The pandemic raised awareness of our interdependence with the living world. Biodiversity, the climate crisis and well-being are interconnected so we must find solutions to foster a better cohabitation between nature and humans, share knowledge and equip youth with the skills and values needed to live in harmony with all living beings.

The  IUCN World Conservation Congress  will be a key milestone for nature conservation and the development of a new global framework for biodiversity, ahead of the Convention of the Parties to the Convention for Biological Diversity.

This pavilion tells the story of how UNESCO and LVMH act together for biodiversity, to reconcile humans with nature and protect, share and transmit the beauty and richness of life on earth. Special events will be organized at the pavilion during the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Marseille, both the pavilion and the events are freely accessible to the public (stand A41).

Exhibit

Together, we can write a different story

We must find solutions to foster a better cohabitation between Nature and humans, share knowledge and equip youth with the skills and values needed to live in harmony with all living beings.

Biodiversity, the living fabric of our planet

UNESCO invites a full reconciliation with the living, where 100% of humans respect this Earth we inhabit and share with all non-humans.

Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB)

Time to reconcile with Nature
The MAB programme has shown that it is also, and above all, outside of protected areas that we must invest in order to design and implement an ecological and solidarity-based transition. It is not only the biological or physical environment that conserves biodiversity, but also the social and economic systems that depend on it.

UNESCO designated sites: connecting knowledge, cultures, values and conscience

There is a space to speak ot our connection to Nature and to valorize the people who are creating opportunities that make a different. UNESCO is at the forefront of the interconnectivity of territories through its unique networks of sites.

‘Wither’ by Thijs Biersteker

Thijs Biersteker creates interactive awareness installations about the world’s most pressing issues today.

His work seamlessly combines scientific research and new technologies to deliver an empowering experience that is accessible both intellectually and technologically.
His immersive art installations –often described as eco- or awareness art– turn the impact of topics like climate change, air pollution, ocean plastic and the anthropocene into tangible experiences that travel the world to create awareness around these topics.
His collaborations with the top scientists and universities around the world lead to a fluid mixture of data, sensors, living trees, kinetic motion, big data visualisations and recycled plastics that make people feel the facts again.
