Sarah Brightman for UNESCO World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism Programme

13/09/2021

Sarah Brightman is an internationally acclaimed British dancer, singer and actress, whose duet with the Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli in 1996, "Time to Say Goodbye", topped the charts all over Europe. She is also the first artist to have been invited twice to perform at the Olympic Games.

Ms Brightman was designated Artist for Peace in 2012 in the light of her commitment to humanitarian causes and her contribution, throughout her artistic career, to the promotion of cultural dialogue, and her dedication to the ideals and aims of the Organization.

Through her video, Ms Brightman announced her future collaboration with the UNESCO World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism Progamme and her wish to raise awareness to protect cultural and natural heritage.

Sustainable planning and management of tourism is one of the most pressing challenges concerning the future of the World Heritage Convention today and is the focus of UNESCO World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism programme. I am very honored to continue my role as UNESCO Artist for Peace and look forward to work with UNESCO to enable historic and cultural preservation at World Heritage Sites and promote sustainable cultural tourism.
